Excessive eating is consequence of mannerisms and if you can identify those mannerisms and manage them, then the excessive eating and consequent overweight problem will be addressed.
People are a habit forming beings and most of the things we do in life are the result of mannerisms we have formed.
Conditioned behaviors often times begin with negligible modifications in our situations and frequently we do not take note of them. Not minding that mannerisms start out small, once they become entrenched, are very hard to undo.

Unfortunately this is false and does not bring any help. All it does is reinforce the habit leading to more problems and a perpetuation of the cycle of excessive eating, increased weight and obesity.

The first thing to accomplish is to name the bad mannerisms. Become aware of your manner of eating. Is there a trigger for your binging? Critically examine those instances when you seem to overeat and try to figure out what precipitates the binging.
The mere acts of pinpointing and addressing those immediate causes will put you so far ahead in your fat loss journey.
Additionally, you should also take a fresh look at the types of food that you desire during these instances since usually, they will be comfort foods and more often than not these comfort foods are of very poor nutritional value and in effect they will trigger binging.
Just modifying your comfort foods, replacing low nutritional value food with high nutrition foods. You will still be satisfying your cravings by removing the negative side effects that are associated with junk food.
As we age, more of our daily routines become habits. This makes it harder to know that we have these behavior and even more so to get rid of them particularly if we have had them for years.
Using a little introspection and a bit of personal analysis you will soon become aware of the various things that are instrumental to binging and weight loss difficulties.
