Ibs And Your Diet
7 Things you should know about irritable bowel syndrome diet.
SCIENTIFIC evidence has proven that food and drinks can trigger the symptoms of some diseases. For this reason, physicians sternly advise their patients to follow prescriptions to the letter, including the diet that they have recommended.
If you have irritable bowel syndrome, chances are your personal doctor has listed down food and drinks you should avoid. If you have forgotten them, or by any chance lost the prescription, here's a recap of the no-nos.
1. Coffee - If gasoline is to automobiles, then coffee is to Americans. That's how important this caffeine fix is to the corporate world and to countless homes all over the country. Everyday, people drink coffee to wake their senses up and stimulate creativity. However, you need to avoid this permanent fixture in the kitchen. The reason: coffee is acidic and contains an enzyme that causes irritable bowel syndrome.
2. Yogurt - Good for the digestive system but bad for your irritable bowel syndrome. Dairy products, including this delicious yogurt, contain whey and casein – proteins that are difficult to digest. This “indigestion” causes the symptoms to recur.
3. Alcohol and irritable bowel syndrome - Just like yogurt and coffee, the alcoholic drink you may be chugging right now also irritates the digestive tract, and thus trigger the disease.
4. Vitamins - That vitamins are helpful in keeping irritable bowel syndrome in check is a wrong information that needs to be corrected. Some might help, while others will only aggravate the symptoms. This is your cue to visit your doctor and ask which ones are good for you.
5. Avoiding fruits and vegetables While it may be true that this food group contains insoluble fibers that cause irritable bowel syndrome, that's no reason to avoid veggies and fruits altogether. Their contribution to our health and wellness is significant, so much so that it's crazy to stop eating them just because your disease might act up again. Trust me, the inconvenience you'll be experiencing is nothing compared to the nutrients your body will lose if stop eating fruits and vegetables.
6. Soluble fiber - Here's another misconception: Taking soluble fiber supplements will worsen your symptoms. In reality, these supplements (known as laxatives) do not act that way. Instead, soluble fiber is a stabilizer that minimizes the occurrence of your illness.
7. 7. Soda - If you want to live a relatively uneventful life, then bid your favorite soda goodbye. The acid content of carbonated drinks will definitely cause the recurrence of your disease's symptoms.
