Steam Shower Sauna

The word sauna is derived from the Finish word Sauna that is thought to have meant some sort of winter dwelling. The definition has evolved however over the years and has come a long way from the pits dug at a slop with a fire in the middle to some very classy and expensive units we have today. To some people a sauna is a place to go and relax that provides a very dry heat where temperatures can exceed well above the 150 degree Fahrenheit mark with almost zero humidity, but it can also be a steam shower. In a steam shower the temperature tops out around 104 degrees and has almost a hundred percent humidity. This “wet” heat is also very relaxing, and it provides relief for joint aches and sinus pressure.

Steam shower saunas can be found all around the world, and in America they are most commonly seen in public gyms or pools, hotels, and are becoming increasingly popular in at home use. They can be custom built around your bathtub, pre-built in different shapes and sizes, pre-cut to fit your space, outdoor, or portable. An outdoor sauna is a lot like the indoor pre-built sauna except it has a room and will give you more of the traditional experience with being outside. All that is require for one of these units is a flat water proof space with the proper wiring. Portable saunas are just that, portable. They are made out of the finest cedar wood and can be assembled in minutes in restricted spaces with no hardwiring required! A new option to achieve luxury therapy in your home is the infra red therapy room. Unlike traditional Finnish saunas it works on a significantly lower temperature to detoxify your body from heavy metals, and toxins in the blood stream along with improving circulation.

There are many medical professionals that are promoting heat therapy to promote our defenses against common illness and reoccurring pain. There are plenty of other benefits that include, burning up to six-hundred calories in one session, decrease stress and/or fatigue, greatly increase your metabolism and immune system!

The word and definition of sauna came from a Finnish term meaning a winter dwelling, what this means is that they used this first as a means of keeping warm in the winter. When they would burn coals and pour water over them it would create an intense warm steam where people could go and take their clothes off. This was both a survival need as well as a way for them to cleanse their mind and rejuvenate their souls.

In traditional Finnish saunas gender/sex does not exist. It’s most common for families and friends of all ages to partake in these sessions at once without worrying about nudity. The modern sauna is a lot like its predecessor, and is very common in American physical fitness centers. They are usually kept as women’s and men’s separately but in some hotel’s and cruise ships “social” saunas or steam rooms are a normal part of the activities.
